"The Verdant Japanese Single Malt."
"A harmony of mountain forest and pure waters."
- Keizo Saji
In 1973, fifty years after the founding of Yamazaki, Suntory's second master blender Keizo Saji established the Hakushu Distillery deep within the forests of Mt. Kaikomagatake. Located at a high elevation, it was designed to create a whisky with a distinctly crisp, vibrant, and herbal character.
Hakushu draws its exceptionally soft water from the pristine snowmelt of the Southern Alps. Utilizing wooden washbacks and a variety of pot stills, the whisky is gently peated. The maturation in the lush forest environment gives it a signature fresh, green apple bite with subtle hints of mint and a remarkably crisp, light smoke.
