"You'll either love it or hate it."
"The most richly flavoured of all Scotch whiskies."
- Laphroaig Distillery
Laphroaig is famous for its uncompromisingly bold profile. During the American Prohibition era, it was legally imported into the US because its intense iodine and medicinal notes convinced authorities it was a medical tincture. In 1994, Prince Charles awarded Laphroaig his Royal Warrant, cementing its legendary status.
The secret to Laphroaig's distinct flavor lies in its own peat bogs, which contain a high ratio of sphagnum moss. They use traditional floor malting and unique 'cold smoking' kilns, allowing the tarry, medicinal smoke to deeply penetrate the barley before it matures in Maker's Mark bourbon casks.
